WHAT: Join us for a fun weekend of adventure for the whole family! This inclusive EmpoweRanch Family Camp is led and designed by certified and experienced recreational therapists (CTRS) that specialize in providing inclusive overnight summer camps for kids with disabilities and other underserved youth. This inclusive three day, two night camp is designed for families with kids of all ages, especially for kiddos with autism. Camp is held at the beautiful Camp Colley, an outdoor adventure camp in the cool pines of the Mogollon Rim near Happy Jack, Arizona about 2 hours north of Phoenix.

Family campers are responsible for your own transportation to, from, and during camp. We will take some gravel/graded forest roads (intentionally-lowered vehicles not recommended, stock clearance should be fine), so we recommend family campers implement your routine vehicle travel maintenance check-up before hitting the road.

Our staff are trained and experienced in working with kids of all abilities, are background checked, and are CPR and First Aid trained and certified. Most of our staff have or are completing their degrees in recreational therapy, special education, or social work.

What is EmpoweRanch Family Camp?

Our family campers will have an experience of a lifetime full of fun, friendship, growth, and learning! Camp days are adventure-filled and intentionally designed based on each camper’s interests, needs, and goals in mind. We will guide your family through the ins and outs of setting up your tent (or you may stay in one of ours), building a camp fire, outdoor ethics, how to be safe and have fun in the forest, and more. Our campers are provided with a traditional summer camp experience complete with an emphasis on inclusive, therapeutic, respect-based H.O.R.S.E. Education (Horsemanship, Outdoor Recreation, Service, & Environmental Education) with a wide range of activities adapted to ensure EVERYONE can grow, thrive, and have fun making new friends along the way!

What activities are offered?

  • Horsemanship (horse behavior, how to care for and be safe around horses, etc.)

  • Horseback riding (weight limit 200 lbs for safety of campers, horses, and staff)

  • Archery

  • Crawdad fishing

  • Exploring East Clear Creek

  • Hiking

  • Wilderness survival

  • Dutch oven / Outdoor cooking

  • Arts and crafts

  • S’mores at the campfire

  • Talent show

  • and so much more!

We encourage families to bring your own tent, sleeping bags, and camping gear so that this can serve as a hands-on guided learning experience so you and your family can feel confident about camping together in the future. We also offer four platform canvas tents and limited regular tents on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ll have a campfire to warm up each night and upon waking in the morning, along with a little help from camp hot cocoa and cowboy coffee!

Our staff have been looking forward to and preparing to provide this spectacular, unforgettable camp all year. We can’t wait to build memories and make this the best summer experience for your family!
